Gladys Stalnaker Coberly, 94, of Glenville, West Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at the Genesis Health Care Center in Glenville, following an extended illness.
She was born in Gilmer County, West Virginia, on January 21, 1922, the daughter of the late Robert L. and Orpha Whiting Stalnaker. On June 20, 1946 she was united in marriage to Claud R. Coberly who survives at their Glenville home.
She graduated in 1940 from Tanner High School and received a standard normal degree from Glenville State College. She then taught at several one-room schools including Latonia, Steer Run, Cather, and Cedar Creek, and at Tanner Elementary School. She later did substitute teaching and was the bookkeeper for her husband's electric and plumbing business for many years. Gladys was a member of the Methodist Church.
Gladys is survived by a daughter, Kay Yohey, of Clarksburg, WV, grandsons Matthew Yohey and wife Stephanie of Manassas, VA and Kevin Yohey and wife Catrina of Dumfries, VA, a sister, Lucille Stalnaker of Glenville, WV, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by 3 siblings, Byron Stalnaker, Fred Stalnaker, and Ruth Miller.
Funeral Services will be conducted at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc. 2 Vanhorn Drive, Glenville, West Virginia, 26351 at 11:00 AM; Saturday, January 30, 2016 with Pastor Bryan Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the Pisgah Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 -11:00 AM. Saturday morning at the mortuary.
