Calhoun had its opportunities but was unable to cash in as Roane County dominated the fourth quarter to come away with a 54-46 victory over the visiting Red Devils Wednesday night.
Although the Raiders, 1-1, had a lights out performance by Kaleb Greathouse, who had a game high 27 points and 14 rebounds, they were unable to pull away until the second half of the fourth period.
That came after Calhoun, 1-1, big man Zack Yanero fouled out and the Red Devils flubbed three straight offensive opportunities with a missed lay up and two turnovers.
The game was close throughout although Calhoun played mostly come-from-behind which it did on numerous occasions.
Ethyn Miller lead Calhoun with 16 and five assists while Yanero added 10 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out. Dylan Heiney chipped nine. Austin Gribble with eight and Ben Frederick with three rounded out the scoring for Calhoun. Dakota Jarvis, Trevor Carder and Caden Hicks all played but did not score.
Drew Kinder and A.J. McGinnis chipped in with nine apiece while Cole Ashley had three, Ethan Moffat and Caleb Shirey two each and Cecil Willis with one rounded out the scoring.
The Raiders also won the junior varsity game by posting a 53-25 victory.
Frederick with seven points, four rebounds and three steals led the Red Devils, 0-2. Carder added six, Hicks four, Hayden Richards and Levi Gregory three and Soney Wilson two. Nick Murphy, Noah Allen and David Marks all played but did not score.
For Roane, 2-0, John Coon led the way with a game high 13 points. Hunter Moore added eight, Dalton Simmons seven, Noah Feresee six, Erik Moore five, Christian May and Gavin Nichols four and Stan Kinder two for the Raiders.
Calhoun returns to action Friday night when it opens its home schedule with a visit from Braxton County. Roane is at home the same night against Doddridge.
