After a number of community meetings, wide Reedy community opposition and delays in decision making, the Roane County Board of Education has voted to close Reedy Elementary School, according to
Jerry L. Garner, Superintendent.
The decision was made by a 4-1 vote in favor of closure, with
Jeff Mace, Greg Boggs, Paul Cummings and Joe Painter voting in favor, with board member Eileen Richardson voting nay.
Roane Schools say that the school system does not have the funds to keep the rural school open, also linking it to low enrollment.
Reedy Elementary has been a high achieving school for a number of years.
Students will be transferred to Spencer Elementary and Spencer Middle School in August, 2016.
