| A boil water advisory is still in effect after three years for 48 Mt. Zion PSD customers in southern Calhoun, according to Patrick Murphy, director of the Engineering Division of DHHR's Office of Environmental Health Services.
The advisory has been related to the inability to keep a required amount of chlorine in the affected area, which is essentially just south of Arnoldsburg to the Upper West Fork Park, adjacent Rt. 16.

PSD officials have said that the low levels of chlorine is related to about 80 customers who signed up for public water not using the system, causing a slow movement of water in the line, which allows the level of chlorination to decline.
The Mt. Zion PSD has made major efforts to find a solution, including trying to get customers use the public water system, and trying to get funding for an additional pump station to be installed in the slow moving water system.
Essentially the same kind of problem was experienced with the Pleasant Hill PSD water system on Yellow Creek a few years ago, the lack of customer use to move water.
"The boil water notice will continue to be in place until at least a 0.2 milligrams per liter of total chlorine residual level is maintained throughout the distribution system,"
said Walter Ivey last year, Director of the Office of Environmental Health Services with the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, Bureau for Public Health.
The southern Calhoun extension was part of a $5.2 million water extension that faced numerous problems, including lawsuits over a selected contractor.
The district made multiple efforts over a one year period to get a minimum number of customers to sign up for the southern Calhoun stretch for the project, with many now defaulting in taking the service.
