UPDATE 10/24 - Three people are recovering in hospitals after a medical condition caused a driver to crash into a Ritchie County home Monday evening.
The crash of a truck into a two-story house along State Rt. 16 between the Calhoun line and Smithville Monday night reportedly occurred when the driver, a man in his 60s, suffered a medical condition that caused him to lose control of his truck, leave the road and crashing into the basement of the residence.
The driver was transported by HealthNet to Charleston Area Medical Center, while one of his passenegers was taken to Camden-Clark Hospital and another was transported to Minnie Hamilton Medical System.
No one in the home was hurt, but the structure suffered major damage.
ORIGINAL STORY 10/23 - At least three people reportedly received trauma in an accident Monday night just after 6 p.m. on Rt. 16, between the Calhoun line and Smithville.
Reports said that the vehicle went into a basement of a house, and the occupants of the vehicle were entrapped.
Firemen spent a considerable time removing the victims from the vehicle, reportedly a driver and two passengers.
Responders from Smithville, Harrisville, Minnie Hamilton EMS and the Grantsville VFD responded to the scene to assist with the rescue effort.
The victims were taken to regional hospitals, with at least one described as being unresponsive, some of them air-lifted by chopper.
At least one of the victims was brought to Minnie Hamilton Health System and life-flighted to a Charleston Hospital.
