The national media missed the best story line when they came to cover Jessica Lynch's return to Wirt County, according to a Hur Herald reader.
Terry Crislip of Leesburg FL said he and his wife were in Elizabeth when the big event happened, taking care of his mother.
More media trucks and reporters flocked to Elizabeth than one can even imagine, Crislip said he was interviewed by a reporter from Atlanta.
"The media reported she was from Elizabeth and went to high school there, and some wrote she was from Palestine, where his family lived," Crislip said.
"In reality she resided in the small community of Mayberry Run and our sheriff's name was Andy and our one deputy was called Barney by some."
"The only thing missing was we had no Opie or Aunt Bee."
Crislip submitted the story to Readers Digest for Humor in Uniform, but didn't know if it was ever published.
Note: Jessica Lynch was declared a hero after being captured and rescued during the Iraq War, but latter, in her book she denied any hero status, but giving credit to her fellow soldiers.
