Damon Ray Hanshaw, 59, of Canvas, West Virginia, passed away Friday October 30, 2015 at Summersville Regional Medical Center.
Born January 11, 1956 in Summersville, he was the son to the late Ford and Nina Hanshaw.
He dedicated his life to the children of Nicholas County, retiring in 2014 from the Nicholas County School System with 36 years of service as a Teacher, Principal, and Assistant Superintendent.
When not working with the school system, he served as a United Methodist Minister for the past decade. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling the state participating in various story-telling events, as well as writing his column, The Scribe, in the Nicholas Chronicle.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Hanshaw; son, Zach, of Raleigh, North Carolina; daughter, Whitney and husband, David Jones; brother Vesper and wife Dee; father-in-law, Rev. Harold Duskey.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 3, at Jordan Chapel United Methodist Church, Canvas, with the Rev. Clifford West and Rev. Harold Duskey officiating. Interment was in Walker Memorial Park in Summersville.
