West Virginia has received $25 million to help residents with household energy costs for this winter.
The US Department of Health and Human Services' Administration for Children and Families awarded the state $25,927,056 to help keep West Virginia families safe and healthy by assisting with household energy costs.
"West Virginia is a tight knit community where friends and neighbors look out for one another. During these challenging economic times, this funding will go a long way to help West Virginians who qualify for assistance to heat their homes and stay safe during the winter months," said Senator Shelly Moore Capito.
This funding is through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), a program that aims to reduce the risk of health and safety problems that arise from unsafe heating and cooling practices.
LIHEAP provides assistance in managing costs associated with home energy bills, energy crises and weatherization and energy-related minor home repairs.
