A Jackson County auto parts plant announced today it plans to cease operations in
February because of global competition. At least 91 employees will be out of a
job.
G-S of West Virginia assembles wire automobile harnesses in Silverton. The company
originally slashed their their force from 300 last April.
As many as 340 workers were employed at the plant in September 2001.
Company President Ken Ukai said the company can't compete on price with overseas
manufacturers, especially those in China.
The company, which opened in 1995, says it will offer employees a severance
package that includes an extension of insurance benefits and job training.
G-S is a subsidiary of G-S Wiring Systems of Findlay, Ohio, which is owned by G-S
Electech of Toyota City, Japan.
