Shaw has longtime dreams of
creating justice land trust
UPDATE 10/31/2015 - Shaw has advised he has given up his life-long dream for the creation of a land trust, mostly due to lack of interested parties.
ORIGINAL STORY - Hur resident Carl Shaw has had a longtime dream of using his farm on the Kerby Ridge as a justice land trust to be used by would be seekers desiring a place to live in the Calhoun backwoods.
Lessees would be required to pay a $5-$10 per acre annual fee under a 99 lease of the land. Lessees can construct a dwelling and pay improvement taxes to the trust, who would in turn pay property taxes to the county.
Included in the proposed trust is the use of Shaw's current dwelling, garden, green house, pond and outbuildings. Electricity is available, with a spring available and water well to be drilled.
Shaw has written and edited an expansive book on Georgist tax principles for land use
Shaw has been a longtime advocate of the Henry George land tax system, and has recently published a book regarding the Henry George use of land, which has been used successfully in several communities in the USA.
