The West Virginia Fire Marshals office was asked to evaluate what the Grantsville VFD described as a "suspicious fire" at the Calhoun-Gilmer Career Center.
The fire marshal's office reportedly indicated the fire did not appear to cross the threshold to be investigated, although Grantsville VFD Assistant Chief Craig Gherke said school officials were to investigate the incident.
"It did not appear to be arson," said Gherke.
Gherke indicated the fire was related to some rags on a sink igniting during after school hours, triggering the school's fire alarm system at 5:30 p.m. Friday, the fire department responding.
The school's principal Bryan Stern said, "The State Fire Marshal is still investigating the fire, but the general consensus is that it was not of a suspicious nature."
Firemen also requested the State Police to investigate the incident.
The fire department was on scene for three hours.
