A cannon will be on display on the Museum Lawn and soldiers will be on hand to answer your questions.
The Beauchamp-Newman Museum will be giving tours starting at 10:30 am. The Museum has recently received new items from generous donors. On display are the Judge and Juror's chair from the first Wirt County Courthouse that was remodeled in 1893. The chairs were donated to the Poor Farm on Tucker's Creek. Harvey and Celestia Porter Coartney were the caretakers of the Poor Farm at that time.
Their two sons, Elmer and Ervan carried the chairs from the Courthouse to the farm. Ervan was only six years old at the time, and we were told he would carry the chair for a while and then sit and rest. The chairs were donated by Lenora Somerville Coartney.
Mike Taylor donated a WWI wool coat, a WV book that lists the draft boards and men registered. The book list entries by county and service number. He also donated a picture of Roy Waggoner, WWI Veteran. Received from the Cale family were ladies fashion fur neck collars. Also received was the account ledger of David Burns Company, a grocery and staple store in Elizabeth, WV.
After your Museum tour join the Pioneer Daughters in the dining room for a visit and enjoy a delicious bowl of their old fashioned beans and cornbread.
