GINGSENG STANDOFF - A suspect in a ginseng investigation faces charges of shooting at officers who were trying to serve warrants in Oak Hill.
Division of Natural Resources Capt. W.W. Brogan III that DNR officers arrested Bill Wolfe following a brief standoff on Saturday night.
Brogan says the officers went to Wolfe's home in the Oak Hill area to serve warrants related to illegal ginseng activity. He says Wolfe became agitated and fired a shot at the officers.
Wolfe barricaded himself in his home. The suspect surrendered about 15 to 20 minutes later.
Wolfe is charged with felony wanton endangerment, obstructing an officer, and multiple misdemeanors related to the ginseng.
HINTON DOUBLE MURDER - A double-murder investigation is underway in Summers County after the shooting deaths of an elderly man and woman.
The bodies of the 79-year-old man and his 73-year-old wife were found in their home Tuesday in the Forest Hill area along state Route 12, Summers County Sheriff Garry Wheeler said.
Investigators are questioning the couple's son.
An arrest warrant has been issued for concealing the bodies. It's believed the victims had been dead for about three days when they were found, Wheeler said.
The names of the victims have not been released.
CHARLESTON SHOOTING - A 17-year-old boy was shot in the arm in the incident in Charleston.
The victim was taken to CAMC General with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say the victim was shot in the elbow. They say it apparently happened in a home along Hendrix Avenue, but the shooting was reported from Early Street.
Police say the victim said he doesn't know why he was shot or who shot him. He also said he doesn't know the homeowner where he was shot.
No one has been arrested yet.
WVU PLAYER DISMISSED AFTER STABBING -
The West Virginia University football program has dismissed redshirt-freshman defensive end Tyree Owens and walk-on running back Kenyatta Greene after being stabbed in an altercation Sunday.
Owens and Greene were two of the three victims involved in the stabbing in Morgantown.
The WVU Athletic Department released a statement regarding the situation on Monday night, reading, "We are appreciative of the efforts of the Morgantown Police Department, and thankful that those identified will make a full recovery."
Morgantown Police continue to investigate.
Alderson Broaddus University officials said in a press release that the university is aware that one of its students was arrested for an incident in Morgantown over the weekend.
ABU said in a press release Monday evening, "Alderson Broaddus University takes the safety of its students as well as all citizens with the highest priority. ABU does not, and will not, condone any behavior on or off campus that could put someone's well-being at risk."
ABU said it is cooperating and supporting all efforts made by law enforcement agencies. The university has taken disciplinary action against the student Devin Colston, 20, and Colston may be subject to further action as more information becomes available. Colston was a basketball player at ABU.
Colston is charged with three counts of malicious wounding. He is in Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
