The Ritchie twins - Cole and Casey -- "intercepted" Doddridge County's hopes for victory as the Calhoun Red Devils won a hard fought 14-8 victory over the Bulldogs on the road at West Union.

Cole Ritchie got the winning points against the winless Bulldogs when he intercepted a pass deep in Red Devil territory and returned it 79 yards for a touchdown. That interception erased an 8-6 Doddridge lead and Seth Moore's extra points run set the final margin.

This all came at the 4:09 mark of the second quarter and neither team would score again.

Although the Bulldogs got close a couple of times.

But that's when the Calhoun defense came up strong and when Casey Ritchie intercepted a Doddridge pass with about two seconds remaining ... it was all over but the shouting.

The victory gives the Red Devils 3-0 record for the first time in six seasons.

Calhoun will try to stay perfect when it plays host to Tygart's Valley Friday night in the homecoming game.

Calhoun drew first blood at the 8:18 mark of the first quarter when Casey Ritchie scored on a six-yard run to cap a drive that was all on the ground. The missed extra point left the score at 6-0.

Doddridge, 0-3, grabbed the lead as time ran out in the first when Garrett Deveraux threw a 14-yard scoring pass. The Bulldogs added the extra points for an 8-6 lead which stood until Cole Ritchie's interception return.

Cole Ritchie led Calhoun's attack with 109 yards on 16 carries, Caden Hicks added seven on three tries with Casey Ritchie had six on six carries and Moore six on three attempts. The Red Devils had no passing yards missing on their only attempt.

Doddridge was led by Clayton Lagasse with81 yards on 28 carries. The Bulldogs completed seven of 13 passes for 79 yards but suffered two big interceptions.

Calhoun's homecoming game against Tygart's Valley will start at 7 p.m. With pre-game ceremonies and a parade earlier in the afternoon.
