A problem reported at 8:02 a.m. Friday in a chemistry/physics lab at Calhoun Middle-High School caused the evacuation of students and staff from the building.
Instructor Tammy Yoak said, "There was no fire and it happened in a science classroom, the physics lab. One of the ballasts on a fluorescent light blew and filled the room with a burning odor."
The Grantsville VFD and Minnie Hamilton EMS responded to the scene.
A heavy morning fog surrounded the area.
The school was evacuated as a precaution until authorities made sure there was no fire and found the source of the odor, said Yoak.
The situation was quickly resolved and students returned to class about a half-hour later.
