DRUG COURT WILL SERVE CALHOUN-ROANE - Opening Ceremony Tuesday

(09/01/2015)
A new drug court in Calhoun-Roane will serve the two counties in an effort to help people with addiction rather than send them to jail.

The opening ceremony for the adult drug court serving the two counties will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Roane County Courthouse in Spencer.

State leaders say that research has shown that where adult drug courts are, they significantly reduce recidivism and substance abuse among high-risk offenders.

Properly implemented drug courts increase the likelihood of successful rehabilitation while reducing the cost to the public.

In 2014, the Justice Reinvestment Act was passed, which says that adult drug courts should be established in all of West Virginia's counties by July 1, 2016.
