If approved by the WV Public Service Commission, Mon Power customers could see a rate increase beginning in January.
According to Todd Meyers, spokesperson for parent company First Energy, the annual request for 2016 rates is 8 percent.
"For our average residential customers, if our request is approved, that would be about an $8.79 increase to the bills come January first," Meyers estimated.
A number of economic factors play into the requested rate, Meyers said.
A PSC decision is not expected until the end of the year.
