A new disease is beginning to spread through the deer population, according to the
Pennsylvania Game Commission. At least four of several dozens of sick deer found
dead in Greene County have been confirmed with Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease.
The disease, spread by insect bites, is not transmitted to humans.
While the game commission suggests the use of gloves while field dressing a deer,
the disease is not infectious to humans. They also suggest washing hands and
tools.
Greene County is a short distance from the West Virginia border. Cases of the disease
have been reported in West Virginia, Maryland and Ohio. |
