(08/01/2015)
FAIRMONT MURDER - Fairmont Police believe 56-year-old Jeffery Hovatter killed his ex-wife, 62-year-old Nancy Shaw, at her home.

Fairmont officers responded to a domestic disturbance where a woman was screaming. Officers made their way into the home and determined that the screams were coming from upstairs.

As officers started to go up a narrow stairway, two gunshots went off and officers left, waiting for back-up units. At that time it was not known how many people were in the home, or who they were.

When members of the Marion County Sheriff's Department, Natural Resource Police and the State Police got on scene, the crews treated the scene as a barricaded suspect. They tried to use a negotiator to make contact with whoever was inside.

Marion County SWAT officers entered the home. They found Shaw dead, and Hovatter injured in an upstairs bedroom. Shaw was shot in the head and Hovatter had an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the face.

Hovatter was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital. He is facing murder charges and is in currently in stable but critical condition. He's under police supervision.

SHOTS FIRED - A shots fired call led police to a shooting victim in Charleston. Charleston Police responded the city's west side about 3:40 a.m. Friday.

Christopher Burton, 27, of New Orleans, was struck by the rounds, according to police. He had gunshot wounds to both forearms. His injuries are not considered life threatening.

Two vehicles were also hit by the rounds.

Police say there are four male suspects in the case who were last seen leaving the area in a small silver four door car.

KROGER ROBBERY - According to the Monongalia County Sheriff's Office, an armed robbery occurred at the Kroger at Suncrest Town Centre Friday afternoon.

The suspect approached the clerk at a register, said he had a weapon and asked for money. The clerk gave the suspect an undetermined amount of money, and he fled the store on foot.
