Calhoun assessor Jason Nettles says the 2016 Personal Property forms were mailed on July 15th to Calhoun residents.
The forms are pre-printed with the information given the Assessor's Office last year, with the information needing to be current as of July 1, 2015.
Holders should list all of the cars, boats, trailers, campers, motorcycles, and 4-wheelers along with their VIN's and values.
Cross out any of the property you no longer owned by July 1, 2015.
Dog License: All dogs in the county must be licensed once they are 6 months old. Tags are available in the Assessors' office for $3.00 each. Dog license are good for one year from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016.
Homestead Exemption: Persons 65 years are older or are permanently and totally disabled and live on their own property can apply for the Homestead Exemption.
This allows a $20,000 reduction of assessed value on their owner occupied real estate. It does not apply to personal property. You may apply in the Assessors' office between July 1, 2015 and December 1, 2015 for 2016 taxes.
Farm Use Valuation: If a person farms their land, you can apply for Farm Use Valuation. To qualify you must have at least $1000 in agricultural production.
