Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department's Smiles for Life program is accepting applications.
Smiles for Life is an oral health screening program for those that meet income guidelines and do not have dental insurance. The applications are available at the Health Department office and also on the website at www.movhd.com
Adults are screened through the Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department and placed with area dentists. The dentists volunteer their services from their own offices and are paid by MOVHD for their costs. There are fees for service that are based on income and will be explained at the initial screening.
Screening fees cover health history, blood pressure screening, oral cancer screening and dental x-rays. The client will have dental records and x-rays sent to an area dental provider for treatment.
Fees also cover oral health education and supplies for the home.
Dental treatment or pain medications will not be given at the Health Department. In some cases, antibiotics may be prescribed by the Nurse Practitioner for dental infection only.
Clients are eligible to return through the program for additional dental work for an additional fee. Individuals without dental insurance are encouraged to contact MOVHD to see if they qualify for the program by calling 304-485-7374 or stopping by the office at 211 6th Street, Parkersburg, WV.
