Rev. Keith Belt filled his regular appointment at the Burning Springs M. E. Church & served Holy Communion. This was his last service at Burning Springs as he has taken a church in Wood County off Route 31 not too far from Williamstown.
The WVU Extension's forced pooling informational meeting will be Wednesday, July 8 at 6 P. M. at the Doddridge County park on Snow Bird Road just off US 50. Several were on hand at the Ritchie County Court House for the hearing on the Antero vs Grove, et al. suit where Antero is trying to take away mineral rights on property that they have permitted and perhaps drilled four (4) laterals in the Marcellus shale. The next hearing will be July 15.
Edith Kittle who had been staying at an assisted living facility in Ripley that has been sold is now staying with Mr. & Mrs. Steve van Clief on the former Curt Bock farm near Burning Springs.
Both Rick Tucker & Charles Russell were consulting their podiatrist in Spencer.
Verba deWeese, age 96, passed away. The widow of Hunter deWeese she always had a smile for all who came in contact with her. Burial was in the Wolverton cemetery.
Rainy weather continues to be the norm in the Creston area although there have been no bad winds nor floods. The West Fork and the river both came up some but such was to be expected with all the deluges. "Rain crows" and tree "frogs" have been jubilant.
Junior Ferrell, Mousey Jackson and Crystal Calvin spent the weekend visiting at the Carl Ferrell residence. Carl was consulting at the emergency room the other day but he is expected to survive.
For reasons known best by others the state road had a bucket truck cutting healthy limbs from trees that were 30 or more feet above the road. Way back when there were dunces who believed that the trees along the road should be cut down so that the sun 'would dry out the mudholes'. Those folks never had to extricate a vehicle buried in the mud in the hot sun with no shade to cool off. Apparently the state has surplus money and all the pipes have been cleaned, all the potholes filled, mud holes filled with creek gravel, ditches pulled, etc.
Common core is still a hot topic as the educrats tell how wonderful it is "and that it was started by governors". While such is 'technically' not a lie the federal program was spread about by slicksters, which, of course, abound in the "education business" These folks made it look like that it was started by some 'progressive, pro-education' governors who really were dupes. A man who follows such matters noted recently that one well placed company has now obtained over $2 billion [yes, that is with a B] in no bid contracts from the State Board of Education. Obviously, the children and their learning is far down the pole of importance. Besides, the ruling oligarchy does not want an educated populance and they know there would be "a rebellion" and all the scoundrels would be thrown out and many sent away to "nice facilities where one gets 3 hots & a cot.
The pope's coming out to "fight global warming" has been welcomed by the charlatans who are making billions off the scam but they won't talk about his comments about baby killing (abortion) not being so cool. Turn's out the pope's science advisor, Hans Schellnhuber, worships Gaia or Mother Earth. While one obviously should respect the earth and take good care of it there is nothing in scripture to justify this "new region". Also the new pope is steeped in "Liberation Theology" which was concocted by the old USSR to use the church for their purposes as the communists regarded religion as the "opiate of the people".
The Sunday school lessons the last few weeks have been from Amos who warned Israel about the impending doom for their apostacy, bad dealing and contempt for the true God. By changing just a few words one could relate the events in his time to many recent events in this nation which had been a Christian nation. Now words have "new meanings", rights are now discovered and whatever some want they get regardless of the consequences which means that soon, in this nation, Christians will be persecuted. Not so long back a leading political figure noted that churches "need to change to get with the times". Old Felix Frankfurter who was one of Roosevelts supreme court justices said, "The law of the land is the will of those in power!" Some of the firebrands are already calling for taking down the American flag.
In the good news department the supremes decided that the government's siezing of raisins from grape farmers which was part of the old socialist "new deal" was wrong. That was part of the same plan when the government men told local farmers that they should kill their little pigs so the price of pork would go up. Many of those in area counties who listened to "the wise ones" went hungry that winter as they had no hogs to butcher & no meat to eat. All this is along the same line as the forced pooling bill HB 2688 which takes from the locals and gives to the out of staters and foreigners.
HG Energy announced that they are starting a 3,838.36 acres secondary oil recovery unit in the Berea Grit in Lincoln County. Back decades ago, some local folks were transferred to the South Penn oil field at Yawkey, then a rather remote location.
Natural gas produced in May fetched just 94 cents/MMBTU or dekatherm. One might wonder if anyone told the Public Service Commission that domestic gas rates should plummet not go up. The price of local Pennsylvania grade crude dropped to $58.63/bbl. with mountain high test or condensate fetching $34.63, Marcellus & Utica light $52.63 and medium $58.63/bbl. Diesel at Mineral Wells still is priced below low test gasoline.
