Roane County Schools have employed former Calhoun school administrator Carla Taylor as Director of Curriculum. Taylor was among 15 applicants for the position.
Taylor's position in Calhoun as Director of Student Improvement was eliminated by Superintendent Tim Woodward as part of his $1.2 million deficit reduction plan, with three other Central Office administrators or employees also losing their central office positions.
Woodward has created new consolidated jobs to manage the system, including an assistant superintendent, identifying them as his "dream team."
Woodward has indicated the first year of his four-year deficit reduction plan saved $100,000, but critics have questioned if any savings occurred in the central staff reorganization.
Some teachers and service personnel are upset the system eliminated their $600 supplements, while restoring supplements to county administrators.
Woodward said those administrative supplements were necessary to keep qualified people.
During the last board meeting, Woodward did not give definitive numbers during this deficit reduction report.
Carla Taylor had been Director of Student Improvement in Calhoun since 2008, and had previously been assistant principal of Calhoun Middle-High School from 2005-2008. She also taught in Calhoun, Gilmer and Wood County schools.
She is a graduate of Glenville State with a BA in education and math and has a MA degree from WVU in Education and Education Leadership.
