Tanner resident Jean (Emogene) Newell Robinson is striking 85 years with excitement, energy and endless interests at her historic 150 year old home in Gilmer County.
"But I like gardening and taking care of my flowers the best," she said, but collecting, reading mystery and western novels, taking trips through the Gilmer Senior Center, connecting to family and neighbors, and researching history are among a long list of interests. She likes to cook too.

"I have all 100 of Louis Lamour's books," she said who also enjoys mystery novels.
The large comfortable house is riddled with paintings, photographs, historical artifacts and
curiosities. Living nearby is her daughter and family, Bobbi Moss.
Jean and her husband Robert Robinson returned to Tanner after he retired from General Motors after 30 years in Michigan, to then raise beef cattle on a 300-acre farm. He died in 2003.

Robinson was the son of Gray and Holly Bailey Robinson, and grew up on Frozen Run, a descendant of the Robinsons who migrated to Calhoun in the 1800s, mostly to the Sycamore area. They were accompanied by the Polings, the Weavers, the Hathaways and others, coming from Barbour County.

Jean Newell is the daughter of Gerald R. and Maude Schartiger Newell who lived on Wolf Run, Orma, with surviving sibings Harry Newell of Orma, Leon Newell of Mogodore OH, and Ellodene Yearkey of Stanton PA, with deceased siblings, Gerald Newell, Jr., Donald Lee Newell and Harold Newell. Her father lived to 102.
"I've had a rewarding life, made better by family and friends, very grateful," she said.
