Signs honor Sgt. Vance
The permanent signs for the Sgt. Gene A. Vance Memorial Trail at the Calhoun County Park have
been placed.
In June a section of the mountain bike trail at the park was renamed
in honor of Sgt. Gene A. Vance, a mountain biking colleague, who was killed in Afghanistan in
May.
The signs have been placed at both ends of the trail, which is to the left of the golf course,
coming up from the pond, and re-joining the walking path toward the back curve of the walking
trail.
The signs, of western red cedar, were made by students at the Roane Jackson Vocational
Center's wood/carpentry shop. The students did a wonderful job, and these signs should grace
this trail for many years to come. Our thanks go out to these kids for their craftsmanship,
and to Donnie Price and Espe CLothier for "planting" the signs.
