Broadway Joe and little Booth Goodwin, the Big Eared One's US attorney for southern W. Va., held a political meeting at WVUP on drugs. They had everybody who was anybody come to the meeting to hear some pontificate for the benefit of the masses. The Goodwin family has been part of the ruling oligarchy in W. Va. for a long time and Judge Joe Bob Goodwin protected his 'clients' EQT and Dominion when some of the peasants brought class action suits against them for 'less that fair' dealing over oil and gas leases. Later Broadway Joe had another meeting urging more manufacturing in W. Va. even though his buddies are the ones that shut down plants and encouraged movement of manufacturing to China, just like the new GM plant funded by taxpayer dollars.
The legislative interims are taking up the big out state boy's forced pooling bill on Monday but some made sure that certain people were not told about the move. The slicksters would have us all believe that it is a compromise with something for everyone. George Patterson who wrote the bill was very careful to make sure that there is no accountability to West Virginia residents and as stated a year or so ago, "The main reason for the forced pooling bill is keep royalty payments low." The bill locks in to the W. Va. Code royalty at 1/8th (12 1/2%) when the going rate is now 20% and in Texas for formations that are not as good as the Marcellus & Utica the royalty is 25%. The bill also puts it to those who own shares in old wells and leases since the big out of state boys really do not want to deal with folks who know about wells, oil & gas, etc. and pay them for their interests.
Some Creston area residents took in the Wood Festival in Grantsville.
The ambulance was calling on the Richardsonville road one day last week and over the weekend Sgt. Richardson of the DPS was calling on folks in Creston and looking the area over.
Mrs. Jim Tedrick and Charles Russell were both calling on their medical professionals at the Minnie Hamilton health center in Grantsville. Charles was also calling on Ray Gumm, brother Euell and Paris Parsons at the Miletree Center in Spencer. Mrs. Parsons fell out of the bed and was taken to Roane General for tests.
The state road put a lot of black top on the Lemuel's Run road making it a fine thorofare and then topped it off with tar and chips making a road, barring Marcellus drilling, that should last for years.
Local residents have been having fun watching the young eaglets.
The next Creston ATV poker run will be Saturday, August 1.
Strawberries did well this year and some area residents were busy making preserves which taste good when the snow is flying. Speaking of snow the 'global warming' folks are having a hard time dealing with the fact that, because likely of slowed solar activity, the earth isn't getting hotter and more folks are getting caught changing the numbers to try to fool some folks.
The EPA was obliged, much to their dismay, no doubt, to report that they could not prove that the hydraulic fracturing of oil & gas wells caused drinking water pollution. Fracking started in West Virginia in the 1950s.
It was reported that a Rogersville shale well is being planned in Lincoln County and that the outfit that presently operates the Carl E. Smith interests plans to drill an Oriskany well near Medina. Mother Hope/Dominion/CNX has permitted a horizontal Marcellus well near Newberne in Gilmer County and EQT is said to have permitted one on Millseat Run near DeKalb, again in Gilmer County.
Mr. & Mrs. Carl Ferrell were visiting family & friends in North Carolina.
