Clyde Emerson McClung, 92, of Reedy, WV, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, May 19th, 2015 at the Miletree Center in Spencer, West Virginia, where he was a resident.
Born May 9, 1923 in Reedy, WV, he was the son of the late Clyde Seaman McClung and Eulala Cain McClung.
He was a 1941 graduate of Spencer High School and another one of America's Greatest Generation Heroes. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he proudly served his country in France during World War II where he was wounded and became a recipient of the Purple Heart. He also received the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon.
He was the eldest member of the Reedy Baptist Church, where he served as superintendent, a trustee and on the building committee for the new church.
Most residents of Reedy will remember him as their Postmaster, having served in that capacity for 25 years. He enjoyed farming and raising Hereford cows. He was "The Conservation Farmer of the Year for Roane County" in 1996.
Emerson will be greatly missed and is survived by one daughter, Linda Sue McClung of Mineral Wells, WV; two sons, Randy (Linda) McClung and Kent McClung, both of Reedy, WV. One brother, Dayton McClung of Reedy, WV; nephew, John (Janie) Wycoff of Palestine, WV; step-granddaughters, Amy and Andrea and great step-granddaughter, Audrie. Sisters-in-law, Pauline Miller of Reedy, WV and Wanda Currey of Xenia, OH and brother-in-law, Coy Snodgrass of Parkersburg, WV, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Emerson was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Currey McClung, sister, Marjorie McCoy, brother, Howard McClung, and nephew, Dick Wycoff.
The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, May 23rd from 4:00-8:00pm at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer, WV.
Funeral service will be held at the Reedy Baptist Church on Blair Street in Reedy, WV on Sunday, May 24th at 2:00pm with Pastor Greg Swisher officiating. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the McClung Cemetery, Reedy, WV.
