The West Virginia Family Nutrition Program-WVU Extension Service, Minnie Hamilton Health System, Calhoun Banks and the Calhoun County Committee on Aging is sponsoring the first annual Old and Nutrition contest.
Dr. Gordon Gee, president of WVU, will be at a Calhoun event to present the the winners.
Do you have a favorite family recipe that has been handed down to you and you have altered it to make it healthier? Do you have a recipe that your family loves but you have made it diabetic friendly? What about a great dessert that you changed so it is more nutritious? If you answered yes; then we have a contest for you.
Between now and June 01, 2015 you can call the WVU Extension Service-Calhoun County at 304-354-6332 to register for the event. When you call in please give the name of your recipe and which category you would like to enter it in.
The categories are: Sides, Main Dishes, Diabetic Friendly, Baked Goods, Desserts and Miscellaneous.
You may enter up to two recipes. Once you have registered you will receive a self-addressed envelope to mail in the old and newly changed or altered recipe to the Extension Office. These do not have to be typed just legible. Once received in the office, you are officially registered for the event and then your healthy recipe will be added to a mini cookbook that will be given to participates and guests on the day of the event.
The judging and presentation of awards will be on June 11, 2015. We ask you to bring your prepared dish, enough for 3-5 judges to taste, to the Calhoun County Committee on Aging in Grantsville, WV between 1:30 - 2:00p.m. Judging will begin at 2:30 p.m.
The winners will be announced after the judging concludes. Special guest, Dr. E. Gordon Gee, President of West Virginia University will be announcing the winners and introducing contestants, guests and judges.
Prizes are: $50 for 1st place in each category and $200 for Best of Show. There will be prizes awarded for 2nd and 3rd place as well.
