Steve Starcher, 75, of Spencer, West Virginia, died Friday, May 1, 2015, at home, after an extended illness.
He was born December 5, 1939 at Spencer, a son of the late Ira R. "Sam" and Mazel Marie Matheney Starcher.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Starcher; son, Richard A. Starcher; grandson, Richard Andrew Starcher; brothers, Stanley Eugene Starcher, Randall Ray Starcher and Sonny Starcher; sisters, Frances Starcher and Sharon Starcher.
Steve was a well-known and longtime dispatcher for the Spencer City Police Department. He had formerly worked in the oil fields, the former Spencer State Hospital and the W.Va. Department of Highways. Steve was an Army veteran and a former 23 year member of the Spencer VFD. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his granddaughter.
Survivors include his companion, Iris Greathouse and her son, Michael Greathouse; sons, Donald S. Starcher, Ronald A. Starcher and Edward L. Starcher all of Spencer; brother, Robert Dale Starcher of Parkersburg WV; sister, Kathy Greathouse of Akron OH; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 5 at the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with the Rev. Jack Roberts officiating. Burial will be in the Starcher Cemetery, near Arnoldsburg. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
