2015: COMMISSION PROCLAIMS MIKE STUMP DAY
The Calhoun Commission honored retiring Calhoun wrestling coach Mike Stump this week, presenting him a plaque that read, "Mike Stump Appreciation Day, April 27, for outstanding coaching and service to athletes of Calhoun County by the Calhoun Commission."
Commission President Chip Westfall said, "Mike has had a legendary career. He had the drive, skill and touch to reach young athletes and touch their lives. The number of kids that he has influenced is endless," with at least two of his original wrestlers in attendance at the meeting.
During his 28 years as head wrestling coach at Calhoun High, he had 21 state champions and 21 runners-up, and has been named twice as state AA-A state wrestling coach of the year.
"Those accomplishments are just starters," said Westfall.
"I hope that Calhoun citizens will take a moment next Monday to acknowledge his lifetime's work and when seeing him, thank him for his service to out kids," Westfall concluded.
