| Martin Atkinson, Jr., 93, of Peniel, West Virginia died April 6, 2015 at the Roane General Hospital, Spencer, West Virginia.
"Junior" was born August 1, 1921 in Roane County a son of the late Martin and Mary Eunice Butcher Atkinson. He was a residential building contractor and built many fine homes in the area. He enjoyed work and attended the Peniel Community Church his entire lifetime.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Gretchen and Paul Wood of Heber Springs, Arkansas; one son and daughter-in-law, Martin "Rick" and Jeanette Atkinson III of Peniel; one sister, Marjorie Lattimer of Spencer; five grandchildren, Jody Putnam, Jeff Wood, Martin Atkinson IV, Ryan Atkinson and Jesse Wolfe; and four great-grandsons.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Eleanor Conley Atkinson; a granddaughter, Katie Wolfe; a great-grandson, Patrick Wood; three sisters, Orpha Ashley, Ona Board and Blanche Board; and eight brothers, Ralph, Locke, Oma, Ord, Howard, Oshel, Eugene and Walter Atkinson.
Service 11:00 am Friday, April 10, 2015 at the TAYLOR-VANDALE FUNERAL HOME, Spencer, with Rev. Tim Couch officiating. Burial will be in the Eventide Cemetery, Spencer. Visiting hours are from 6:00 to 8:00pm Thursday at the funeral home.
