Rev. Howard D. Nichols, 83, of Spencer, West Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Miletree Center in Spencer.
He was born August 19, 1931 in Spencer, a son of the late J. C. "Charley" and Arthelia Harris Nichols.
He was a retired school bus driver in Roane County, a farmer, and a minister at several area churches. He attended the Church of the Living God in Spencer and was a Sergeant with the U. S. Army in the Korean War.
Howard is survived by his wife, Mazel M. Burroughs Nichols; his sons, Duane and Coradel Nichols of Spencer and Daniel and Sharon Nichols of Ruthland Ohio; brothers, Donald (Berdeal) of Hartville, Ohio, Leroy of Akron, Ohio, Kenneth (Konnie) of Grantsville, West Virginia, and Gary (Barbara) of Spencer; a sister, Jewell Carpenter (John) Kelly of Spencer; granddaughters, Amber Nichols and Cinimani (Jason Cunningham) Bailey; grandson, Derrick Nichols; seven great-grandchildren; step-sons, Jeff Marks of Spencer, Eric D. Marks of Orma, West Virginia, and Jason Marks of Akron/Canton, Ohio; a step-daughter, Rebecca A. Johnson of Covert, Michigan; and several step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelyn M. Nichols; a son, David R. Nichols; a niece, Lorraine; sisters, Frances Jenkins and Louella Ridenour; brothers, Bernard (Jack), Reuben, and Boyd; and a stepson, Adam Burroughs.
Service will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home in Spencer, with Rev. Randy Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the Otto Cemetery near Spencer. Visiting hours are Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
