A six-year-old Doddridge County first grader was struck and killed by a school bus
Friday. West Union Police Chief Gerald Turner said the child was struck on old Route
50 as she darted from behind a picket fence.
She has been identified as Tori Shultz, daughter of Richard and Vickie Law Shultz. Funeral services will be conducted in Pennsboro.
The child was taken to United Hospital Center in Clarksburg, where she was
pronounced dead.
Turner said the accident appeared unavoidable, after he interviewed three
eyewitnesses.
He said about 50 or 60 children were on the bus, and about four or five waiting to get
on.
The chief said speed was not a factor.
