HOME INVASION CHASE - Three people believed to have been involved in a home invasion in Mason County were captured Tuesday near Huntington after a high-speed chase.
West Virginia State Police Sgt. G.N. Losh said the chase began on Route 2 in Cabell County and reached speeds more than 100 miles per hour.
Near Lesage, the driver and his two passengers bailed out of the car they were in.
One of the three -- Frankie Chapman, 30, of Huntington -- then stole a red pickup truck and headed toward Huntington, according to police.
The other two people, Chad Beckett and Emily Adkins, quickly were arrested at the Dollar General Store in Lesage.
Prior to the arrests, state police say one of the male suspects shot at a trooper and the officer returned fire, hitting Beckett in the arm. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The pursuit finally came to an end at a gas station in Guyandotte after Huntington Police used a spike strip to stop the stolen pickup truck.
Eyewitnesses tell saw Chapman driving the truck through telephone poles and into several cars.
Losh says at one point shots were fired at one of the police agencies involved in the pursuit. The shot missed the officer.
The home invasion happened along Tribble Road in Leon just before 10 a.m. Tuesday in Mason County. No further details about the invasion have been released.
All three suspects are believed to be in the custody of West Virginia State Police. |
