Mary Lenore Boyles Shafer, 90, of Glenville, died Thursday, March 19, 2015 in Charleston, West Virginia.
She was born in Glenville on November 18, 1924. Mary was the daughter of the late M.P. and Pearl Collins Boyles.
She graduated from Victory High School in Clarksburg with the Class of 1942, where she earned the rank of salutatorian. Mary furthered her education at West Virginia University in Morgantown, graduating with a bachelor's degree in home economics in 1946.
After a one-year internship at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, she obtained employment in Charleston. She worked as a dietician at Charleston General Hospital before devoting her time to her family.
Mary was united in marriage to Mr. Paul E. Shafer on April 21, 1956 at the Adamston Methodist Church in Clarksburg. He preceded her in death on February 10, 2006 after 49 years of marriage.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Glenville, where she was active in the United Methodist Women. Mary shared her musical talent by playing the piano at her church.
Survivors include her son, Mark Allen Shafer, of Charleston; her daughter, Lisa Mary Shafer, of Charleston; and two nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert L. Boyles.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 23, 2015 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Glenville with the Rev. Mark V. James officiating. Burial will follow in Stalnaker Cemetery, Glenville. A viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday at the church.
