SPENCER POLICEMAN RESCUES GIRL FROM FLOODWATER

(03/13/2015)
A 15-year-old Roane County girl nearly drowned in high water, and is lucky to be alive, thanks to a Spencer police officer.

Sgt. Bo Williams said he and a Roane County deputy were at the Sheriff's Department when a man drove up and said there appeared to be a child in a rain-swollen creek near Spencer Middle School.

Spencer Middle School is near Spring Creek, which frequently gets out of its banks and floods.

When Sgt. Williams and the deputy got on the scene, a short distance away, they spotted the 15-year-old girl in the water holding onto a branch.

Police say the branch then broke and the girl was swept away by the current.

Sgt. Williams then jumped in the creek and grabbed the girl and was able to get her to the bank.

The girl and Sgt. Williams are both expected to be okay.
