Highway fatalities have decreased on West Virginia roads over the past year.
The Division of Motor Vehicles Commissioner Pat Reed said that roadway fatalities in West Virginia are down 18% for 2014 compared to previous years.
In 2013, 332 people died in crashes and in 2014 that number was 271.
In 2012, the Legislature passed Governor Tomblin's distracted driving legislation, which bans texting while driving and is a primary enforcement offense, in addition to buckling up.
West Virginia's seat belt law was changed in 2013 to become a primary enforcement law.
