Tyler Sims and Sam Brady combined for 49 points to lead Calhoun to a 61-49 Class A Regional 4 sectional victory over home-standing Doddridge Saturday night.

Sims led the way with 28 while Brady had a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

The win avenged an earlier loss to the Bulldogs.

Calhoun started out as if it was going top blow the Bulldogs off the court by jumping out to a 15-2 lead before going inexplicably cold from the floor allowing the Bulldogs to get back into the game, trailing by only four - 18-14 - at halftime.

The Bulldogs rally continued into the third quarter when Hunter Riffle drilled a three-point goal the Bulldogs went on top 23-22, sending their fans into a state of frenzy.

The frenzy quickly became shock as Calhoun countered with a 17-4 run and never looked back.

Doddridge's run was countered by the inside play of Brady, who scored 17 of his 21 in the second half. The senior pivot was aided by the passing of Ethyn Miller, who had a game high six assists to go along with his eight points and three steals.

Sims, too, saved his best for the second half as he he scored 20 of his 28 after intermission, Sims was especially productive in the fourth quarter as he hit nine of 10 free throws as the Bulldogs were forced to foul to stop the clock.

Calhoun got two each from Dylan Heiney and Zack Yanero while Luke Sheldon, Lucas Wilson, William Baker and Tyler Gerwig all played some valuable minutes but did not score.

Despite the scoring outburst the Red Devils used a stringent defense, especially in the first quarter, to thwart the Bulldogs.

How good was the Red Devils' defense?

Good enough that Brandon Smith, who had 25 points against Calhoun in the first game, was held to two.

Drew Lett, the Bulldogs; multi-talented guard, led the way with 17. He was followed by Riffle with 15. Tim Shepherd added nine while Garrett Devericks and Hunter Hayes added two each and Ben Rock and Brandon Clevenger one apiece.

With the win Calhoun,10-11, advances to the sectional finale at Gilmer County High School, Tuesday night, Doddridge ends its season with an 11-10 record.
