We are proud of our Middle School Girls Basketball Team as they played hard all season long and that brought us to the opportunity to play in the Final Four game this week.

We are even more proud of the great sportsmanship seen this week. Our girls played earlier this week against Summersville as part of the Final Four and the higher rated Clay County team watched our girls game (if we won we would have played Clay for the championship this past Saturday).

The Clay County Middle School girls came into the locker room previous to the Summersville game and told our girls they had Clay's support as they appreciated our sportsmanship and they hoped we won against Summersville as they would like to play Calhoun in the Final Four but Calhoun did not win that game.

Saturday we played Braxton County for 3rd and 4th in the Championship and Clay County girls were in the stands cheering us on. Braxton County won which left only Summersville and Clay to play for 1st and 2nd place. Calhoun girls could have left after our game but they and parents stayed in support of Clay County girls. Clay County won the championship with our girls on their feet cheering.

As Clay County MS Girls accepted their trophy for the Championship win, they climbed the ladder to cut down the net to the basket as is traditional. To our surprise, Clay's Basketball Team came to our girls and cut off a section of the net and gave each of our girls a piece showing their appreciation of great sportsmanship and support.

It doesn't get any better than this and these two rival teams show great sportsmanship and support to each other. It seems we gained so much more this basketball season than we expected and what was gained was more than just a score on the board.

We hear mostly about the troubled parents who have troubled kids. Today we hear about these positive children that don't want negative attention. We can learn much from these girls because they don't do it for the coach, schools, or parents alone, it is who they are as people. Both Calhoun and Clay Counties should keep their eyes on these girls, they are exceptional.
