A Grantsville man, Thomas Gene Collins, 27, was charged following an alleged domestic dispute and assault involving his father, girlfriend and others, including Collins smashing the families dog against the wall and killing it, according to a criminal complaint filed by Grantsville Police Chief Andy Walker.

The incident happened early Thursday morning at an Elm Street residence, after Collins and his girlfriend had returned from a bar, according to the complaint.

Collins is in Central Regional Jail, charged with domestic assault and battery and cruelty to animals. Bond is set at $5,000 on the misdemeanor charges.

The complaint says that Collins attacked his father Tom Collins with whom he resides, "pushing him in the chest and throat...slamming him against the wall...stating he would kill him."

The elder Collins said there was a jewelry box busted and blood on the bathroom door.

Later, during the episode, the elder Collins was punched in the throat, says the complaint.

Police called for an ambulance to be sent to the scene, reportedly taking the elder Collins to the hospital.

The accused told officer Walker he slapped his girlfriend Brittany Jarrett, according to the complaint.
