Billie Jean Currey Summers, age 77 of Normantown, WV, departed this life on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at the Genesis Health Care Center, Glenville, WV; following an extended illness.
Billie Jean was born, February 23, 1937 in Normantown, daughter of the late Ira Nelson and Monnie James Currey of Normantown.
Billie Jean was a graduate of Normantown High School, class of 1955. She was a lifelong member of Lower Steer Run Baptist Church. She retired in 1996 from Normantown Elementary School after 30 years of dedicated service. She loved cooking and tending her beautiful flower gardens, and spending time with close friends and family.
On July 7, 1956, Billie Jean was united in marriage to William C. Summers, who survives at their Normantown home. She is also survived by one son, William Mark Summers of Normantown.
Other survivors include, her twin brother, Burl Dean Currey of Grayson KY, brother, Charles Currey of Columbia SC and one sister, Norma Currey Yeardley of Parkersburg WV; and one brother-in-law, Denver Clendenin, of Kenna WV.
Along with her parents, Billie Jean was preceded in death by 1 sister, Claire Ruth Clendenin (Denver); sister-in-law, Maxine Currey (Charles); brother-in-law, Jay Yeardley (Norma) and sister-in-law, Ruth Currey (Burl).
Graveside services will be conducted at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery at Hunter Road Run, Normantown, WV; at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2015, with Pastor Mark Minney officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to the Gilmer County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, First Baptist Church 217 E. Main Street, PO Box 237, Glenville, WV 26351.
