Fourth-ranked and unbeaten Gilmer County played a good game Thursday night.
Meanwhile visiting Calhoun County couldn't hit a bull in the hindside with a bass fiddle.
The result?
Gilmer roared to an early lead and went on to post a lopsided 73-39 victory over the Red Devils. Running Calhoun's winless streak against the Titans to a decade. Calhoun last beat Gilmer during the 2004-2005 season.
Gilmer grabbed a quick 10-1 lead and never took its foot off the throttle as the Red Devils shot a miserable 3-22 from the field in the first half letting Gilmer County roll to a 32-12 halftime lead.
The Red Devils did not improve any in the third quarter (3-17) and only had someone not named Tyler Sims score a basket early in the fourth, Ethyn Miller scored on a layup. Overall, Calhoun was 14 of 55 from the field, including an 8-15 fourth quarter.
Sims led Calhoun, 4-6, with 20. He was backed by Miller and Sam Brady with six apiece, Lakota Jarvis with three and Luke Shelton and Dylan Heiney with two each. Zack Yanero, Lucas Wilson, Tyler Gerwig, William Baker and Austin Gribble were all shut out.
For Gilmer, 7-0, Carter Springer came off the bench to hit five threys and score a team-high 17 points. He was backed by Zach Chapman with 15, Austin Ratliff with 14 and Trey Shuff with 12. The Titans also got seven from Noah Aviles, four from Lucas Sirbaugh, two from Anthony Dean and one each from Gunnar Haley, Colby Cunningham and Ethan Burkhammer while Cole Haley was scoreless.
There was no junior varsity game.
Calhoun will try to get back on the winning side of things Tuesday night when it travels to South Harrison for a doubleheader.
