Frances Tanner, 77, of Arnoldsburg, West Virginia died December 29, 2014 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Veronica and Gary May after an extended battle with cancer.
She was born July 24, 1937 in Leatherbark, West Virginia a daughter of the late James and Mary Lesher Ash Bowman.
She was a homemaker and member and President of the Ladies Auxiliary Post 5959 in Grantsville, West Virginia for 12 years and was also a member of the American Legion. She enjoyed reading, watching football, NASCAR, spending time with family and friends and helping others. She attended the Walnut Grove Church.
She is survived by four daughters, Kathy Tanner of Sand Ridge, West Virginia, Veronica (Gary) May of Arnoldsburg, Joyce Crouser of Selma, North Carolina and Kimberly Jones of Oklahoma; six sons, Howard Tanner of Akron, Ohio, James Tanner of Arnoldsburg, Michael Tanner of Princeton, North Carolina, Kevin D. (Deanna) Tanner of Millwood, West Virginia, Kevin G. (Shelly) Tanner of Harmony, West Virginia, and Keith (Marie) Tanner of Arnoldsburg; two sisters, Barbara (Carl) Marks of Arnoldsburg, and Nancy (Gary) Starcher of Burning Springs, West Virginia; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Gale Tanner; a son, Denver D. Tanner; a grandson, Marlyn Cecil May; a granddaughter, Samantha Pierson; a brother, Paul James Woodring; and a sister, Irene Manley.
Service 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 4, 2015 at the TAYLOR-VANDALE FUNERAL HOME, Spencer, West Virginia with Rev. Rick Matheney officiating. Burial will be in the Tanner Family Cemetery in Arnoldsburg. Visiting hours are from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
