There is a new Emergency Medical Services director at Minnie Hamilton Health System.
Kanawha County native Mark Kerns has replace Brett Wellman, who has served in the position after MHHS took-over the local ambulance service.
Kerns started his career in 1980 as a Junior Volunteer Firemen at East Bank VFD, driving ambulance at 18 years old.
He obtained EMT certification in 1983 and was hired as a EMT at Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority (KCEAA), achieving Paramedic certification in 1987.
He achieved Critical Care Transport Paramedic 1998 and recently retired from KCEAA after 28 years service. In the last 10 years he has worked in education department, becoming Education Director in 2009.
Kerns is a national recognized EMS instructor through the national association of EMS educators, having certification in CPR, Advanced Cardiac life support (ACLS), International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Critical Care Instructor.
