Elk River Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution recently delivered 17 pairs of bamboo diabetic socks to the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Facility in Clarksburg. DAR chapters annually participating in Christmas gifts to the VA Hospital joined together to provide 180 pairs of diabetic socks. Thirteen DAR chapters participated in the sock project.
The socks were received by Wesley Walls, Public Affairs Officer for the VA Hospital and Dorothy Sandy, V.A.V.S. (Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service), representing the DAR at the Clarksburg facility.
Following a delicious lunch at Minard's, the chapter members traveled to Webster, WV (near Grafton), to tour the Anna Jarvis House and Museum. The guide shared interesting facts about the Jarvis family. She also mentioned how instrumental the WV Society DAR had been in the 1980s with historical preservation projects when the state organization owned the house. The tour guide explained that had the state DAR not shored up the foundation, the house would not be standing today.
