The latest statistics on child abuse and neglect from WVs Childrens Protective Services (October 1, 2013-September 30, 2014) shows Calhoun with 93 investigations, 25 new cases opened, and 45 children removed from their family.
Calhoun County was among about six counties in WV with the highest rate of child abuse and neglect at 37% (per 1,000) according to a WV Kids Count report.

Calhoun 37%;
Clay - 54%;
Roane - 8%;
Wirt - 20%;
Gilmer - 22%;
Braxton - 37%;
Ritchie - 25%.
