Charles Richard "Charlie" Mace, 95 - Spencer

Charles Richard "Charlie" Mace, 95, of Spencer, West Virginia passed away November 14, 2014.

He was born February 3, 1919 in Spencer a son of the late George and Evelyn Mace.

Charlie was a loving husband and father. He retired from Kaiser Aluminum, served on the Spencer City Council for over 20 years, and started the Roane County Committee-on-Aging where he served on the board for over 40 years. He was a member of Moriah Lodge #150 and the Shriners and was a member of the St. Johns United Methodist Church for over 70 years. He served as Democratic party chairman and was a US Army veteran of World War Two where he served in five major campaigns and was awarded the Bronze Star with a Star for Valor.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Sidney Pettit Mace who he married on March 10, 1943; two sons, Charles "Chuck" Mace of Arizona and Jeff Mace of Spencer; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille; brothers, Carl, Georgie, Paul, Freddie, Dorsey and Freer; a granddaughter, Cheryl Mace; and a grandson, Rick Mace.

Service will be held at noon on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the TAYLOR-VANDALE FUNERAL HOME, Spencer, with Rev. Homer Hensley officiating. Burial will be in the Eventide Cemetery, Spencer.
