Two natural gas
companies in West
Virginia, owned by
Allegheny Power, will
be decreasing
rates in the near
future.
The state Public
Service Commission
has approved rate decreases for both
Mountaineer Gas and West Virginia
Power Gas Service.
Allegheny Power spokesman Allen
Staggers says the price for wholesale
natural gas has gone down, allowing the
company to lower rates for nearly
250,000 customers in West Virginia. The
reduction will begin November 1.
Staggers says the average Mountaineer
Gas customer will see a slight rate
decrease of less than one percent a
month or 45 cents on the average
customer's bill. Staggers says
Mountaineer Gas continues to enjoy the
lowest rates for natural gas in the state.
Allegheny has 225,000 Mountaineer Gas
customers.
West Virginia Power Gas customers will
see a 14% decrease in the
average customer's bill, that's
approximately $16 a month. Allegheny
has 24,000 Power Gas customers in
Kanawha, Fayette, Wirt, Calhoun and
Roane counties.
