Harless Warner Mace, 76, of Millstone, WV, died October 15, 2014 at his residence from health complications.
He was the son of the late Forest and Stella R. (Stump) Mace.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley C. (McCollum) Mace, his son, William (Bill) Mace and wife, Cheryl, of French Creek WV; daughters, Norma Collins and husband, Andrew, of Arnoldsburg WV; and Crystal Conley and husband, Darrin, of Sand Ridge WV; grandchildren include Stephanie Campbell and husband, Dusty, of Belington WV, Tammy Tatman and husband, Christopher, of Glenville WV, Ethan and Jonathan Collins of Arnoldsburg, Cassidy and Chase Conley of Sand Ridge;
step grandchild, Heather Paugh and husband, Ricky, of Buckhannon WV, and 5 great grandchildren.
He was a 1957 graduate of Calhoun County High School in Grantsville and was an alumni band member. He became a band booster in 1974 and continued to this day to support the band program at Calhoun High School. He was a long time bus driver for the equipment bus and was the designated popcorn man.
He was affectionately known as the "Devil Driver". He was always on the bus keeping it warm so the kids would have a warm place to get into at the away ball games.
Harless retired from Bilco Construction Company after 47 years of being a senior equipment operator and was one of the first WV Certified crane operators in the state.
He enjoyed working for the community and schools. He was a charter member of the Arnoldsburg Volunteer Fire Department where he helped build the current fire hall and served as a fireman.
He was a member of the West Fork Community Action and was a huge part of the Molasses Festival staff.
He supported the Central WV Mule and Donkey Show by assisting with the pit roasting of the pork every year and he was a long-time member of the Bear Fork Hunt Club.
Harless regularly attended the Albert's Chapel United Methodist Church at Sand Ridge since his childhood. He loved spending time with family, and friends, cooking on an open fire and listening to his family play bluegrass music.
Funeral services will be at Stump Funeral Home in Arnoldsburg, Saturday, October 18, at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. David Weaver officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, October 17, 2014 from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at the Albert's Chapel UMC Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.
