PARKERSBURG, W.Va. - The American Red Cross WV Region is seeking disaster volunteers for Territory 1. Territory 1 includes the counties of Brooke, Calhoun, Doddridge, Gilmer, Hancock, Jackson, Marshall, Ohio, Pleasants, Ritchie, Roane, Tyler, Wetzel, Wirt and Wood.
The Red Cross hopes to build momentum in all communities within this region to recruit new volunteers who will be trained to respond to disasters locally. This recruitment is targeted specifically toward Local Disaster Responders. Local Disaster Responders will become part of a Disaster Action Team and are dispatched as needed to assist families who have experienced localized disasters such as house fires and floods.
For the period July 1 thru September 30, volunteers have served 127 clients in Territory 1 providing folks with shelter, clothing, food as well as referrals to other organizations to help them with their recovery from the disaster they experienced.
